Carolyn Kubota Morinishi received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics/computer science from the University of California at Los Angeles and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Southern California, she worked as a software engineer for 11 years before going to work at home, raising her three children. Carolyn holds natori (master) and shihan (instructor) degrees in nihon buyo (classical Japanese dance) from the Azuma Ryu in Tökyö, Japan. She also has a teaching degree from the Edo Senke School of Tea Ceremony. Carolyn’s mother, Marian Kurasaki Kubota, was born and raised in Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, and also lives in California. She is a valuable resource in the creation of the Culture4Kids! columns. Marian earned her bachelor’s degree in education and holds a professional teacher’s certificate from the University of Hawai‘i at Mänoa. She earned her master’s degree in education administration from Cal State Los Angeles. Marian is also involved in Japanese cultural arts, holding a teaching degree in the Misho Ryu school of ikebana.
