WHO/WHAT: The Sumie Society of Hawaii, led by Sachie Saigusa, will present their Sumie (India ink) and Japanese art paintings at this exhibit.

WHEN/WHERE: Monday, April 18, through Friday, April 29. Hours are April 18 from noon-4:30 p.m.; April 19-28, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and April 29, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Honolulu Hale Courtyard.

WHO/WHAT: The Center for Okinawan Studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa presents this lecture series, featuring novelist Darcy Tamayose.

The largest diasporic Okinawan community in Canada is located in southern Alberta. Tamayose will discuss this in her presentation and will read from her novel, “Odori,” for which she received the Canada-Japan Literary Award in 2008.  She is currently working on a third novel, “The Ryukyuan,” and will be reading excerpts from it.

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, April 24, from 1-3 p.m. in the Center for Korean Studies Auditorium on the Manoa campus. Free parking is available adjacent to the CKS Building.
