23rd Annual New Year’s ‘Ohana Festival

WHO/WHAT: The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i presents its annual ‘Ohana Festival to celebrate Hawai‘i’s cultural diversity and to ring in the New Year 2016 – the Year of the Monkey.

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the center and Moiliili Field.

DETAILS: This fun-filled event will feature food, crafts, entertainment and cultural demonstrations on stages located at both the Teruya Courtyard and at Moiliili Field. Keiki can also enjoy games and make-and-take activities throughout the day.

Cultural booths at the center include Bonsai, Calligraphy, Chigiri-e, Shinto blessings by Daijingu Temple of Hawaii, Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha – Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu and Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii, Japanese Name Translation, Kumihimo, Origami/Mini Ikebana, Shippoyaki, Shishu, Tea Ceremony and Go (Shogi, or Japanese checkers).

COST: Admission to the festival is free. Parking will be available at the University of Hawai‘i parking structure for a flat rate with complimentary shuttle service to and from the festival. For more information, call (808) 945-7633.
