The Japanese Women’s Society Foundation will celebrate its 60º anniversary at a luncheon set for Sunday, July 27, at the Hawaii Prince Hotel. The event is titled “Sixty Years of Linking Generations” and is being held in conjunction with the organization’s general membership meeting. The 2014-15 officers will also be installed at the event.

The JWSF was founded in 1954 as the Japanese Women’s Society of Honolulu, an educational and service organization aimed at promoting friendship between the United States and Japan, cultivating fellowship among members and encouraging members to engage in community service.

One of the highlights of the event will be the recognition of the organization’s four remaining founding members — Elizabeth Russell, Rose Kamuri Shigemura, Mariko Sumida and Lillian Yajima.

Following lunch, guest speaker Dr. Dennis M. Ogawa, UH-Mänoa professor of American Studies, will speak on “Japanese American Women Who Shaped History.”

The event is open to the public and begins at 10 a.m. with a silent auction and bake sale. The membership meeting follows at 11 a.m. with lunch beginning at 11:45. The cost is $50 per person; reservations are due by July 15. Make checks payable to: “JWSF – Annual Meeting” and send to: Patti Fukada, 505 Kaiemi St., Kailua, HI 96734.
