Former Herald writer Joe Udell visited Lisse, the Netherlands, earlier this year and describes the Keukenhof garden in this issue’s cover story. The garden, known for its 121-year-old windmill, is also host to more than 7 million tulips, crocuses, daffodils and hyacinths. With its interesting wooden and metal sculptures and giant pond, it is a must-see travel stop for 2014 travelers.

Also in this issue, read about a unique mythology and storytelling event called Kataributai, which takes place on Dec. 8 and learn more about UH Wahine basketball player Diane Moore.

In addition, you’ll find the December television program guide and tips on Medicare, Social Security and estate planning.

Since 1980, The Hawaii Herald has been published twice a month. The Herald’s comprehensive and varied coverage chronicles the past achievements, current concerns and future aspirations of its distinguished community.
