“THE ART OF FUROSHIKI” AT THREE OAHU LIBRARIES

What: Learn the art of furoshiki (Japanese-style wrapping cloths) from eco-crafter Evelyn Nakamura and go green this holiday season.

TOBE! UTA-SANSHIN HAWAII TO THE WORLD

When: Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m.

Where: Mamiya Theater, Saint Louis School campus.

A recital by Afuso Ryu Gensei Kai Hawaii Shibu, featuring more than 50 performers from Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Los Angeles. Special performances by National Living Treasure of Japan, Choichi Terukina-Sensei of Okinawa and National Endowment for the Arts, 2012 National Heritage Fellow, Lynne Yoshiko Nakasone-Sensei.

“FISHING FOR WIVES” — A KUMU KAHUA PLAY

When: Through Dec. 9

Where: Kumu Kahua Theatre

Edward Sakamoto’s world premiere play about two Japanese immigrant buddies who work as fishermen and get entangled in the “picture bride” courtship conventions in early Hawaii.

Showtimes on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. No show on Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving Day).
