New issue in stores now!

The new issue of the Hawaii Herald, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Hiroshima-Honolulu sister-city relationship, is in stores now.

The Hawaii Herald wins SPJ Award

Joe Udell, the Herald’s online editor and staff writer, recently won first place for feature writing in the non-daily newspaper division at the 2008 Society of Professional Journalists Awards Banquet for his story “Tracing an Indelible Mark.”

The article was published in the Herald’s Oct. 3, 2008 edition and examined the history of the Japanese tattoo and its rising popularity in Hawaii. The article was also a finalist for the arts and entertainment category in the open print division.

Udell’s “Into the Tokyo Abyss” article, from his Joe in Japan series, was a finalist in the feature writing category as well.
